An Oldie But Goodie:
Summer 2008
Today we took the kids to the Museum of Natural History at Harvard. To be quite honest, when we arrived I was like, "Oh my gosh, gag me with a tablespoon." Not a huge fan of museums unless a. they are fun, b. they have cool things that i care about, c. they involve and incite social change. This fit none of those criteria.
Nonetheless, as we moved through, more interesting exhibits began to pop up. God being God, saved the best for last! So I have this whole thing with butterflies right now as they have a lot to do with certain issues in my spiritual life at this point. In the last room we were in, I saw the Morpho butterfly (can be anywhere from 3 to 8 inches long and lives in So. and Central America), one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life!!
So I came home and read more. Turns out that the beauty of the bright blue Morpho butterfly comes not from pigmentation but iridescence. So if it were in pale or weak light, it wouldn't shine with all the rainbow colors it is meant to exhibit. This totally makes me think of the beauty we shine forth as we use the gifts God's given us! Humility is not in dulling ourselves but in letting HIS light illuminate the multiple layers, nuances, and dimensions of glory in all the characteristics He's given us! Of course, that means it's GOD shining in us, so that means we let Him do His work in His way. So it takes true intimacy and true communing with Him to let this happen. I love it.
Isn't that beautiful?! God is so good, and I love Him.
