Did you know that you are a model? You may not be walking the catwalk, but each of has a light to shine.
One day I was walking to the train station when something life changing happened. I saw this little girl with her mother, and as I walked by, the little girl looked at the boots I was wearing. The boots were skin-tight and dark brown with pointed toes and 3-inch heels. The girl, who must have been about 5 or 6 years old, gazed at the shoes with wide eyes and, looking embarrassed, turned her eyes away. Without her saying a word, it was clear to me that I was telling her something about femininity! I never thought of my boots as looking sexual, nor did I think of them as a short, written lesson to girls and other women around me.
But after that morning, I threw those boots away. It was a wake up call to let me know that I have been stewarded with a life that will lead someone whether I want it to or not. I do want it to, and I want to do it well.
In an age where marriage is under assault, we are all looking for people to tell us what it means to be a woman. Media tells us we are here for sex. But while the media has a strong voice, we do as well. I will never forget this dear woman who ministered a sweet message of grace to me when I was about 6. I was in Publix supermarket in Miami where I grew up (that is, I grew up in Miami, not in Publix. :) ). I was helping my mom by pushing the cart. The woman came with her cart and was trying to get past me. I moved to get out of her way. With a kind tone, she simply said, "You're fine," implying that I didn't have to move. It wasn't much, seemingly, but it was to me. I had always felt like my life was an inconvenience to others, and I was always scrambling to get out of people's way. Her simple phrase of kindness put me at ease and sowed a seed to make me think, just maybe, I could let myself simply be.
So I want to be a SUPER model! I want young girls to see an example of God's grace and love in me. I want them to see purity incarnate, which will only come as I let God love me and mold me. I hope that my clothing will show others that women are not sex objects, but that we are respectable human beings with many facets. YOU are a model, too! Especially to those of us who live in highly populated areas, you are telling many girls around you each day what it means to be feminine. This isn't to make you nervous, but to let you know that your life is important! We've gotta be responsible with the messages we put forth, because it really does matter. What message will you send?
